Like anything in life, your yard needs nurturing to be its best! Let us breathe some life into your lawn and provide the nutrients it needs to be it's healthiest. Aerating your lawn is one of the best things you can do for your lawn.
Are you noticing round, brown spots in your yard? This can happen even if you have a regularly scheduled lawn care program to mow and fertilize your grass. These dry spots are signs your lawn cannot breathe and isn't receiving the proper nutrients it needs to grow! Luckily, Advantage Landscaping offers aeration in Lynchburg and surrounding areas as part of your lawn care program.
What is Aeration?
Lawn aeration is the process of creating small holes in your lawn—usually around an inch or two in diameter and 2-6 inches deep—to allow air, water, and sunlight to reach your turf’s root system. Your lawn will have increased oxygenation, reduce thatch, and improve the soil's ability for water to matriculate through the soil stimulating new root growth. There are different types of aeration that fit different situations, the most common being spike aerators and plug aerators. Aeration helps soil absorb nutrients penetrate deep into your turf.
How Does Aeration Help My Lawn?
Aeration helps reduce that compaction, allowing your lawn to breathe and take in the nutrients it needs to thrive. Over time due to rain, foot traffic, and harsh weather, your lawn’s soil can become compacted, making it hard for your lawn to get the nutrients it needs without assistance. If you notice round, brown spots or dead patches in your lawn, that's a sign your lawn desperately needs to be aerated. Aeration will also give your lawn more strength against disease and weeds. It’s important to overseed your lawn following aeration in order to thicken your grass and give it a healthy appearance and eliminating those dead patches.
When you partner with Advantage Landscaping for aeration your lawn will:
- Better absorb nutrients, water, fertilizer, and sunlight.
- Have more strength against disease and weeds.
- Grow into the lush, healthy lawn you deserve!
When to Aerate my Lawn in Virginia
A compacted soil is normal after the summer months with kids and pets playing in the yard, outdoor events, and high temperatures. It doesn't mean it has to be the norm, though! We recommend aerating in Virginia in the late summer months and throughout the fall — results are better when there is less heat and drought damage to the grass. Annual aeration allows for healthy grassroots to thrive, so it's important to aerate your lawn each year.
